SDE Week 1: First Impressions of Software Design and Engineering
Our first meeting, the orientation for the subject System Design and Engineering set the tone for what seems like an exciting course subject. Our professor greeted us with lots of energy, making it clear that this class would be both challenging and rewarding. He introduced himself first, and then we, the students, took turns introducing ourselves.
After the introductions, our professor took us through the syllabus, giving us a preview of the topics we’ll be covering. From learning about system architecture to understanding design patterns, the syllabus was full of interesting challenges. The way our professor explained each topic made it clear that this course would involve not just theory, but also hands-on work. We’ll be working on real-world projects, which is both exciting and a little scary. But I’m ready for the challenge because I know each project will help me get better at system design.
One of the main lessons from the first week was understanding and following the rules our professor set. Things like being on time, actively participating, and working well with others were highlighted as key to doing well in this course. I liked how clear and organized these rules were; they’re not just suggestions but a guide to keep us on track and focused.
The orientation gave us a strong start, and the syllabus promises an exciting journey ahead. This first week has been amazing, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the course will bring. The challenges will be tough, but the rewards will be worth it. I’m ready to learn, work with my classmates, and grow on this journey in System Design and Engineering.

| First Meeting with our Professor |
In our second meeting with our professor, we had the opportunity to present the initial version of our project. During this session, we discussed the strengths and weaknesses of our works so far. Our professor provided detailed feedback, highlighting areas where we did well and sugesting revisions and improvements. This feedback was invaluable to us, as it gave us a clearer direction for refining our project and ensuring that it meets the course expectations.
After, we then left the meeting with a better understanding of how to enhance our work and the motivation to push it further.
